“Paper architecture” is typically derogatory, used to report a designer who designs most though builds really little.

Christina Lihan’s paper sculptures of architectural landmarks and iconic cityscapes is a good play on a term. Lihan palm carves sheets of watercolor paper to build real, three-dimensional structures that cocktail from a design support (or shade box in this case).

She starts by sketch out a stage in charcoal, regulating this template as a starting indicate for her paper works. She constructs a “building” in layers, and customarily from a oblique, so as to amplify a 3D effect. Here, miniature skyscrapers and manikin basilicas are rendered in good detail, with each spire, column, and pillar ideally in place.

All images pleasantness of Christina Lihan.
